Mutuality: The Future of Social Justice Movements
Cubberley Auditorium
6pm-8pm
Join Harry J. Elam (Vice President for the Arts) and Jeff Chang (Executive Director, Institute for Diversity in the Arts) for a conversation on the future of justice movements with:
Linda Sarsour (Lead Organizer/ Board Member, Women’s March)
Patrisse Cullors (Co-Founder, Black Lives Matter, author)…
Favianna Rodriguez (Artist, Activist, Exec. Director of CultureStrike)
Raquel De Anda (Lead Organizer, People’s Climate March)
Social movements are creating new norms centered in intersectionality and the practice of uplifting many voices toward change. For one historic evening, four leaders from major campaigns for change will speak to the idea of mutuality, or what we owe to one another.
This event will be part of IDA’s spring course called “Art + Community: Division, Resilience and Reconciliation”. The class encourages students to practice how they find commonality and build community in ways that address privilege, redress harm, and imagine new futures.
This course and event is funded through the generous support of the Dean of Humanities and Sciences, the Vice President for the Arts, the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education.
We thank our esteemed collaborators and co-sponsors: the Center for Comparative Studies in Race & Ethnicity, African + African American Studies, Women’s Community Center, Stanford Live!, El Centro Chicano y Latino, Markaz, Black Cultural Services Center, Asian American Activities Center, Students for a Sustainable Stanford, Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Residential Education, Institutional Equity and Access.
NOTICE FOR OUR GUESTS: Cubberley auditorium is an accessible venue with a ramp and elevator access to all floors. There is an all-gender restroom on the first floor that will be available before, during and after the event.
