Introduction to Brazilian Percussion and Rhythms!
This series of four 90 minute classes is offered in April 2018. The class will focus on instruments and rhythms played in percussion
ensemble music from Brasil. These instruments include the Ganzá, Agogó, Caixa drum, Surdo drum and the Chocalho.
The classes will be paced specifically for students with little or no experience. The course is offered as a series only, drop-in option classes are not offered.

Friday evenings April 6th, 13th, 20th 27th.
School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza,
San Jose, California
Course fee: $100 for all four 90 minute classes.
Students age 8 to 18 and under are no charge.
All instruments provided.

Instructor Jimmy Biala is the director of Bloco do Sol San Jose. Jimmy is a professional music educator, performing and recording artist specializing in Brazilian, Cuban percussion and Jazz drum set. In addition to directing Bloco do Sol, Jimmy teaches specialized programs in Brazilian and Cuban percussion to 400 youth students each week in 3 elementary schools in the south bay area. He is also a faculty member of the California Brazil Camp, San Jose Jazz Camp and is currently an SV Creates Silicon Valley Artist Laureate.
