Barrios Unidos is celebrating its 40th year with a two day event September 8th & 9th. On Friday, September 8th, we will present the «Justice for Healing Communities: Passing the Baton» panel discussion. This is a free event, although a $10 donation is recommended. Tickets are NOT required for entry.
It is crucial that we focus on passing the baton by unconditionally supporting young leadership to take their place at the forefront of the movement to heal our communities. This panel will discuss the importance of intergenerational organizing in the context of restorative justice as we all strive a dynamic way forward in this work. Our moderator for the panel is influential scholars Dr. Craig Haney and Dr. John Brown Childs of UCSC. Panelists include key change-makers such as Albino Garcia of La Plazita Institute, Carmen Perez of the Gathering for Justice and Justice League NYC & CA, Luis Cardona of Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Irene O'Connell of FoodWhat! and Gina Peralta of the W. Haywood Burns Institute.
We are excited to share this space with you, our beloved community!
If you haven't yet, be sure to check out of second event on Saturday, September 9th-- Barrios Unidos' 40th Anniversary Celebration Dinner at the Cocoanut Grove from 6PM — 9PM. Tickets can be purchased on our website.
