Participants are welcome to bring their own paper and drawing materials if desired.
Workshop type: Textile Collage and Drawing
Participants will use a variety of textiles as inspiration to create a textile collage. With the guidance of the instructor, Heather Deyling, participants will learn to translate their designs into drawings while exploring various techniques with a variety of drawing materials. Students will have the opportunity to create a design on fabric in response to their collaged compositions. The workshop will help students conquer fears about drawing and make the practice of drawing more accessible and enjoyable.
About the Artist:
Heather Deyling is an artist and educator currently teaching through Savannah College of Art and Design. Her current work, the “Invented Hybrids” series, includes drawing, fiber based sculpture and installation. Her studio practice is driven by research and observation of natural forms, such as succulents, fungi, and marine invertebrates. She earned an MFA in painting and drawing from Tyler School of Art at Temple University and a BFA from Kent State University. Deyling has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions across the United States.
