Painted Mandolin: How do you possibly spice up the acoustic musical gumbo cooked up by Jerry Garcia over his 50 years of pickin’? You need more than great players, you need highly creative, innovative, spice masters to make it hot and fresh and imminently danceable. You need Painted Mandolin! Painted Mandolin explores the acoustic side of Jerry Garcia from his Jug Band days to Old and In the Way through the Dead’s ‘Reckoning period, and the Garcia Grisman Band. The Acoustic Garcia band includes: Matt Hartle, lead guitar in Spirit of 76, Chinacats, and Shady Groove; Larry Graff, lead guitar in the Banana Slug String Band, and Slugs n' Roses; Roger Sideman, Bass in the Chinacats, and David Gans & Sycamore Slough String Band; Joe Craven, Violin/Mandolin, was a member of the Garcia Grisman Band from 1991-1994, and a member of the David Grisman Quintet from 1989-2004.
Peck & Penn is an Americana-roots duo comprised of counter coastal compatriots; San Francisco based Elliott Peck and Jesse Bardwell who currently hangs his hat in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Peck stays busy back home singing, playing guitar and piano in her band Midnight North in addition to singing with Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead’s band Phil Lesh and Friends. Bardwell has been relentlessly filling rooms with a passionate sound since 2005 playing between here and everywhere else in Quimby Mountain Band and solo alike, sharing the bill with acts such as Railroad Earth, John Gintys Brother Buddha, the Radiators and countless others. Together the two fashion a refulgent blend of old-time country, Americana, roots and folk music. Their live performances are comprised of both original works and a few pieces of adoration pulled from the time-strewn pages of the great American songbook.
