The Clearwings is an acoustic folk rock duo. After experimenting with an act that included electric guitar, bass, and percussion, Raven Adams and Mark Phillips decided to strip down to the essentials: two voices and an acoustic guitar. They named the resulting project after a moth that is often mistaken for a bird, and started writing songs.
Having refined their sound over hundreds of performances, the Clearwings present raw, unencumbered music with surprising depth. Praised for an authentic sound and engaging performance, the band remains focused on the intimacy of live music.
Tweaking genres, the Clearwings bring a modern rock edge to a classic folk sensibility. In addition to an ever-growing catalogue of originals, the band continues to craft new arrangements of eclectic covers, distilling a wide range of sounds to their melodic core.
The San Francisco-based duo has been featured at Sofar Sounds, was selected by The Deli Magazine SF as Emerging Local Artist of the Month (Feb. 2017), and will appear on the upcoming season of the White Wall Sessions. In their time touring California and the West they have shared the stage with notable acts like Roosevelt Dime, Healy, and Strawberry Runners.
