Mayfair Community Center - City of San José
2039 Kammerer Ave, San Jose, California 95116
Join us for “American Mexica,” a FREE celebration to commemorate the permanent installation of our father/grandfather, Luis Guel's artistic interpretation of the Calendario Azteca in the lobby of Mayfair Community Center in east San Jose. You're invited to take part in the festivities and learn about this ancient American Stone of the Sun.
He created this art installation and 8’x8’ teaching tool 25 years ago by hand-carving it out of wood and meticulously adorning it with jewels, feathers, and other unique decorative pieces. His Calendario Azteca represents North America before borders were drawn during the Spanish invasion. To illustrate this, he built it specifically with the intention of teaching community members of all American backgrounds about the mathematics, astronomy, mythology, and historical significance of the Stone of the Sun.
A flyer is enclosed with more information. The event to commemorate and celebrate his work will take place on Friday, May 19th, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Mayfair Community Center in east San Jose. It will include food, music, a short program, and performances by Danza Azteca Anahuac Tlalpan.
La familia Guel hopes to see you there! Let us know you're coming and find more info by clicking the RSVP link.
